The mission center is building on the traditions of service of all the neighborhood parishes, but in our social service work, we particularly follow the spirit of Ignatian Services, the charitable umbrella of the former St. Ignatius Parish. It’s our intention to begin our work by restarting the St. Ignatius Food Pantry, to serve the Rogers Park area from Devon Avenue north Touhy Avenue and west to Western Avenue. The food pantry served more than 5,000 people in its last full year in operation, almost 300 families a month. We plan to continue this tradition of service.
The Ignatian Mission Center will be a place where families can go to get all of their needs met. Because we know that over 85% of families that visit Chicago food pantries are employed, we recognize the ongoing need for families to have food, but also for the Center to be able to provide the holistic services that families need to achieve self sufficiency. As such, the food pantry is an integral part of the Mission Center, allowing us to connect those in need to not just food but also social services. It also provides an opportunity to expand our partnerships, including with Loyola University.
We will be fully up and running again starting February 7, 2023..
We have received nonprofit status from the IRS on June 10, 2022. Because of that approval, donations are tax-deductible.
To make a donation via PayPal to our effort to restart the food pantry, or our effort to raise money to purchase the St. Ignatius campus, click here. A donation of $50 will help distribute a week’s worth of food to nine people. Please note, any amount will help and is greatly appreciated. If you wish to set up a recurring donation, that’s possible also. Recurring donations will help sustain the food pantry and prove the mission center has strong support from the community; any amount is helpful.
